Recruitment & Internships
The Lowy Institute Internship Program
The Lowy Institute for International Policy is currently accepting applications for our highly regarded internship program.
We are seeking young, talented individuals with strong academic records who are interested in contributing to Australian international policy. Lowy interns are typically undertaking a master’s degree in a relevant discipline or have completed postgraduate studies.
Interns will need to be enthusiastic and self-directed, possessing excellent time management and administrative skills. Strong word processing and Internet research skills are essential.
Interns will be appointed for agreed periods to work in our central Sydney office. An intern's main duties will be to work with the Institute research staff on their major projects and public events. Working hours will be flexible and per diem expenses will be covered. The internship program is a voluntary one.
Internship vacancies arise on an ad hoc basis. The internship program attracts a large number of outstanding candidates from around the world and is highly competitive. Successful applicants will be contacted directly when vacancies arise.
Past Lowy Institute interns have gone on to secure prestigious positions in international policy, including jobs at think tanks in the United States and Australia, a cadetship with the Sydney Morning Herald and a Rhodes Scholarship at the University of Oxford. Lowy Institute interns have also been highly successful in winning graduate traineeships with Australian Government departments: four interns were offered positions in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's 2008 graduate trainee intake.
